Tips for Shopping for the Top Big Camping Tent

There are several things to consider when getting ready to purchase a tent for your family camping trips. Since you’ve now seen each of our reviews, we’ll go over the best things to keep in mind when narrowing down your choices.

What to Consider When Buying a Big Tent

There are several factors to consider when choosing the right big tent for your needs. You want to keep in mind how many rooms you need and how you’d like your tent configured.

You always want to keep in mind the features that you most prefer for your individual needs. For example, you might need features that ensure privacy such as zippered separators or dividers. Perhaps you know that you will need a tent that is waterproof or has several windows to help increase breathability and airflow. All of these features are key aspects of big tents to keep in mind when choosing the right product for you.

Key Features & Benefits of Big Tents

There are a number of key features to consider when choosing the best big tent for your needs. In addition, there are several benefits to choosing a larger tent. They provide a bigger space for gatherings along with heightened privacy when camping out with others. And given their size and overall configuration, they also offer some protection from the elements if you happen to book your camping trip on a rainy weekend. Your plans don’t have to be ruined if you have enough space to stay dry and entertained.

Aside from the actual benefits of the physical tents we’ve outlined here, there are also great benefits to camping itself. You get to spend time with family, enjoy the fresh area, get some restful sleep and even get in some exercise. The physical, emotional, and mental benefits of camping are countless. And if you have the right equipment, you can really enjoy your time in the outdoors.

Rooms & Configurations

If you have a large family or plan to camp with a group of people, it makes sense to choose a tent that offers a number of rooms, instead of just one common area. This allows for privacy during sleeping and getting dressed and it just provides an area for some alone or quiet time. That said, there are a number of different configurations available.

roomy tents give you more comfort

The size and number of rooms you need will depend on your use for the tent. In addition, you’ll want to decide if you want a central open space or if you’d like to use the sleeping rooms for dual purpose and make those your common space when privacy isn’t needed.

The tents that offer private sleep areas in addition to a central common room tend to be the biggest tents available just by virtue of offering a higher number of rooms.

There are others that offer several sleep areas but do not have a set common space. Instead, the dividers between the sleep areas can simply be opened to create a makeshift common space.

Your personal preference will determine which of these options is right for you. With that in mind, remember that if you choose a tent that does not have a common room set aside and you simply unzip or move aside the divider, your belongings will still be out in the open. With a central common area, your personal things don’t have to be on display for others to see or have to maneuver around.

There are also differences when it comes to the rooms. Some tents that are on the smaller side provide just a zipper or divider right down the center of the tent. This means that there are really only 2 areas, or rooms, in the tent. Others offer several dividers, making a series of rooms for multiple private areas. Again, this will depend on how many people are attending the camping trip and how much privacy you’d like to have while on the trip.

There were also some tents reviewed here that had the ability to add nearly infinite rooms. If you choose one of those tents, you’d be able to essentially keep adding rooms as needed, say if your family expanded or you had friends who wanted to join your camping trips.

One last consideration when it comes to the overall roominess of the tent you choose is its height. If you, and most of your guests can stand in your tent, then you are far more likely to be and stay comfortable, even if you are stuck in the tent on a rainy day. No one wants to have to stay hunched over when inside the tent for long periods of time.

Insulation, Fabric, & Materials

The fabric of the tent you choose will have a big impact on how dry you stay as well as how much airflow is available inside the tent. Many tents are made of nylon for a couple of reasons. It is lightweight without shorting on durability. Many tents will use a coated nylon for waterproof purposes while nylon mesh can be used for areas that need extra ventilation.

Other potential materials include polyester, which is less breathable and a bit heavier but does not expand when wet and is less likely to tear.

Windows, Floor, & Ventilation

Ventilation is a key consideration when choosing the best tent for your needs. If camping in the summer, without proper ventilation, you’ll likely experience uncomfortable humidity. You want a tent that has enough windows to keep air flowing going and to keep you as comfortable as possible, even on really hot days. Many tents also offer a solar shield mechanism to aid in keeping you cool.

The floor is another consideration. Obviously when camping, you are essentially sleeping on the ground. You want a durable floor that will keep out moisture. The shape of the floor has a lot to do with moisture wicking.

Waterproofness & Breathability

Waterproofness and breathability are two items which have to be engineered very well in order to work well together.  Generally, in terms of most any type of equipment, to get better performance in one area there will always be a trade-off which has a parasitic effect on another area.  Better ventilation leaves more openings in the tent fabric meaning more opportunities for leakage, and if we start closing off vents, air circulation begins to stand still.

High quality tent companies spend thousands of hours on research and development while designing these systems, and a properly executed ventilation and water dispersion combination is the calling card of a serious brand.

What is the Best Big Tent for a Family Camping Trip?

Our pick for the best big tent for a family camping trip is the Standing Room 144. It has a super easy setup which means Mom or Dad could be setting up the tent while everyone else is unloading other supplies. It is a great size and allows anyone to walk freely throughout without having to hunch over.

There are also a couple of different model options available from which you can choose. So, you are almost guaranteed to find the perfect family tent from this series.

The air ventilation in this tent is top notch and the skylight is such a nice feature to take advantage of on peaceful, starry nights. You can get the whole family together for a bit of star gazing. And finally, perhaps the best feature of this tent is that it can be combined with others. If your family is expanding, or you’d like to ask other friends or family members to join, you can always connect their tent with yours.

What is the Best Large Tent for All Weather Conditions?

The Coleman Weathermaster is the ultimate tent for camping in all weather conditions. It protects you from virtually all of the elements, including rain and high winds. The lower rise means that you aren’t subject to gusty winds in the same way you would be with a taller tent. And the lines on both the main tent and the rain fly means you are even more protected from rain, wind, and storms.

No one really wants to be camping during any type of storm. In fact, you likely just hope that you’ll encounter beautiful weather for your entire camping trip. If that isn’t the case and you are up against less than ideal weather conditions, the Coleman Weathermaster is the tent you want to be using.

Camping Tents With And Without Rooms

Most basic camping tents offer one large space for everyone. Even if you purchase a large size, there is only giant space included where each person must sleep. Tents with rooms add some privacy. They offer just as much interior space, but have added walls that keep people separated.

STANDING ROOM 100 FAMILY CABIN CAMPING TENT

The Standing Room 100 tent offers an innovative design utilizing an existing 10 x 10 canopy frame as its structural load-bearer.

This makes the base 10-feet by 10-feet of course, and the ceiling stands 8.5-feet high at its highest point, which is more than enough for standing up, and gives this tent a distinctly cabin-like feel. Its height means anyone can stand up and move freely.

While the buyer does need to be in possession of an existing canopy frame they are generally inexpensive, and if not owned already can be purchased at a reasonable price.

The use of the canopy frame is very nice because it allows the tent to be installed with the frame legs collapsed. Once it is all clipped up, it can then be extended upward as a unit.

Then it’s just a simple matter of using the hook & loop straps around the legs to secure the corners. The canopy frame gives a very sturdy feel to this model.

The 150-denier polyester tent shell clips to the bottom side of the frame rather than draping over the top as a traditional canopy cover would.  This makes for extreme ease of setup for even one person. One thing we noticed that was an added bonus was that this tent does not include a rain fly but the existing canopy cover acts as such when installed.  This provides a dual layer roof for great rain cover.

The Standing Room 100 is a fully waterproof cabin tent with a bathtub style floor for water protection in the heaviest downpours, and comes with the option of either 2 or 4 doors for full customization.

This camping tent is a single room. You can purchase the main frame, and then add these single room sections to create a large tent for everyone.

There is 8.5 feet of headroom available, and space to accommodate up to four campers.

This tent does not offer multiple rooms by itself, but when set up next to another one it can be fully connected creating an extremely versatile shelter which can essentially be turned into infinite rooms.  All of the doors have huge windows which when rolled down provide very good ventilation, even when connected to others. This tent is a great option if you expect to need to expand even further, given the ability to connect to another one.

Things We Liked

  • Super-easy single person setup
  • Strong due to canopy frame
  • Cheap to buy

Things We Didn't Like

  • Must have canopy frame already

BROWNING CAMPING BIG HORN FAMILY/HUNTING TENT

The Browning Bighorn Family Tent is a freestanding tent that stands over 7-feet tall in the center.  Its 10-foot by 15-foot area has a zippered dividing wall in the middle for separation into two rooms.

This model has 6 gear pockets sewn right into the dividing wall which we thought was a neat feature, and the wall itself can be rolled up and toggled out of the way creating one larger main room.

There are 6 windows around the entire tent and a gaping, vaulted skylight.  The windows were a bit small for our taste but they did a good job of keeping the tent ventilated.

Their arched shape allows rainy season viewing without any visual interference of the rain fly’s edge. The polyester fly sports oversized awnings above the doorways provide very good water expulsion and reach lower to the ground ultimately providing strength, and waterslide-like evacuation. The steeply angled walls deserve recognition as well, and when paired with a thick tubbed floor and the rain fly it all comes together to create a veritable waterproof fortress.

Steep walls play another important role. When they are combined with the high ceiling they make an excellent environment for foldable cots, without the worry of getting damp against a wall.

The construction of this tent is quite durable given the steel uprights coupled with an arched, shock-corded, fiberglass roof structure. The steel stakes do a good job of holding this tent down without any slippage.

The Browning Bighorn is produced by ALPS Mountaineering and, as one of the foremost brands in outdoor gear, they have put this thing through the paces.  ALPS tested the Bighorn in many different levels of wind conditions and it stood up to the challenge beautifully. This is a durable tent that will keep you dry and protected from the elements while camping.

This camping tent is a single room. You can purchase the main frame, and then add these single room sections to create a large tent for everyone.

Six windows are included to allow for air circulation. The strong polyester material is UV resistant, protecting campers from the sun’s harmful rays.

Things We Liked

  • Large, well-functioning rain fly
  • Sturdy construction
  • Very waterproof

Things We Didn't Like

  • Setup is a bit more difficult

STANDING ROOM 144 FAMILY CABIN CAMPING TENT

Much like its little brother the 100, the Standing Room 144 tent is designed for ultimate convenience.  This large tent sets up in just minutes using an existing 12 x 12 canopy frame as its main support system.  When assembled this model is a freestanding design with the base expectedly measuring 12 x 12 feet.

The ceiling is 8.5-feet high at its apex and progresses downward at an extremely shallow angle, which makes for a whole lot of full-height standing room even in the corners. This means anyone can walk comfortably through the tent without having to hunch over.

The Standing Room 144 sets up by clipping the main tent to the inside of the canopy frame with the frame legs retracted. Once everything is fastened it is then lifted upward and the legs lock in at full height.

It is a very good design for nearly immediate, hassle-free setup. The existing canopy cover is then thrown over the top to act as a rainfly and a dual layered roof.

Depending on what model is chosen, there may not be a roof vent.  4 door models have two zippered vents in the ceiling while 2 door models do not, so just keep that in mind as it makes a slight difference in ventilation.  All of the doors in these tents are outfitted with enormous windows which allow very good air circulation, but it’s always nice to pop the covered skylight open in the rain.

The Standing Room 144 holds its own when it comes to providing protection from the elements. It has a waterproof shell and tubbed floor for excellent saturation prevention.

This family cabin tent is a standalone room. Get a frame and pair it with other standalone sections to create a large tent big enough for your entire group.

Four big screen doors are included on the sides so there is always access to an entry point. Two power pockets are included to allow power cords into the tent.

Though this tent is only a single room when by itself, multiple tents of this same model can be pitched next to each other, and then fully connected.  This creates virtually unlimited possibilities and the most versatility in large camping tents.

Things We Liked

  • Super-easy single person setup
  • Strong due to canopy frame
  • 30-day money back guarantee

Things We Didn't Like

  • Must have canopy frame already

The Ozark Trail 12-Person Instant Cabin with Screen Room is a fantastic 3 room tent for lounging around buglessly with the whole troupe.  This tent sets up in just a few minutes with pre-attached poles for easy pitching without having to search for all the parts and pieces.

This tent is enormous with a 20 x 18-foot floor area and three wings, each of which can fit a queen bed inside for maximum person-storing efficiency.

The rooms have partitioning walls so campers can sleep in privacy, and they roll out of the way to open up, creating one main room.

When not using the third room it makes a nice screened-in porch area to relax in, though we noticed the width of the polyester borders made it feel more like a ‘big windows’ room rather than a screen room.

Either way it was enjoyable to use, and when the window covers are open, it lets through an amazing breeze. This tent has more vents than many of the other ones we reviewed, setting the bar at 10 windows, 3 doors, and a full roof skylight.  When all of them are open there is a lovely cyclone of circulation throughout, and the 6-foot, 4-inch high ceilings make full height standing a non-issue for an overall roomy and airy tent.

An item of special note is that the door zippers come together tightly without letting in any bugs.  Not all tents have doors that do that. In fact, this is an area where many fall short, but Ozark Trail hit the nail on the head with this one.

In just a couple minutes you can have your instant cabin tent set up and ready for use. Not much assembly is required thanks to the poles that come pre-attached to the tent and ready for quick setup.

Simply lay it out, and pull it up, and pop it out. A large screen section provides a space for eating or just enjoying time indoors. There are also separate bedroom spaces for added privacy. Up to 12 people total can fit inside comfortably. The tent has enough space to hold at least three queen size air mattresses.

Things We Liked

  • Quick, simple setup
  • Individual sleep nooks
  • Great ventilation

Things We Didn't Like

  • ‘Y’ shape can create traffic jams in main area

COLEMAN RED CANYON 8-PERSON TENT

The Coleman Red Canyon 8-person tent is an excellent choice for taking the family out camping and has been turning out quality equipment for over 100 years.  The Red Canyon is yet another great offering, providing excellent value at a very reasonable price.

This easy-to-pitch tent hangs from shock-corded fiberglass poles via a clip-on system, which makes setup very quick and trouble-free.

Its dual-wall design maintains a gap between the main tent and the rain fly which gives a layer of insulation and significantly reduces unwanted noise.

The fly on the Red Canyon adds an extra layer of rigidity and tosses water aside.

The fly also has hook & loop straps on the underside to wrap around the tent poles for a tighter hold ergo less flapping around.

Large awnings over all of the openings lend very good water deflection, and a d-shaped door features a wide storm flap to keep the rain out. The shape helps to prevent zipper snags. With all of these features, you and your guests will stay dry in this tent.

The atrium in the Red Canyon stands 6 feet high and with a 17 x 10-foot footprint, it has plenty of space inside and really checks the boxes for spaciousness for the family. You can stand and move about this tent, though it isn’t quite as tall as some of the others we review here.

The Coleman Red Canyon 8-Person features floor-level vents to promote maximum cool air ventilation at the sleeping level in case the weather turns out being worse than expected.  This is also a good idea to soothe any carbon monoxide concerns, as it is a heavy gas and tends to settle close to the ground.

Things We Liked

  • Dual-wall design
  • Rain fly works well
  • Easy setup

Things We Didn't Like

  • Interior not as tall as some

CORE 9-PERSON EXTENDED DOME TENT

The CORE 9-Person Extended Dome Tent is a monster of a tent standing 6-feet tall with a 16 x 9 footprint.  The ability to fit 3 queen air beds inside push this dome above and beyond its other dome cousins.

Standard, shock-corded setup is pretty traditional for a dome and can be kind of a pain to set up by oneself, so it is recommended to get a partner to make putting the tent together a bit easier.

It still sets up relatively quickly, but we thought the use of tent pole clips rather than sleeves as a suspension method would have been very beneficial.

The fly boast CORE’s H20 Block Technology meaning its seams are heat sealed at the factory, not allowing even the tiniest rivulets of precipitation inside.  It guys out nicely to the staking anchor points holding the tent firmly to the ground.

The windows are large and refreshing and combined with a huge, fully mesh ceiling, ventilation is at a premium.  We noticed that it was almost impossible to see out the windows when lying in bed, but there was still an incredible view of the heavens on those still, starry nights.

The 9-Person Extended Dome Tent from CORE is a bit lighter than average tents of its size weighing in at just over 18 pounds, where some way upwards of 40.

It is an ideal candidate for car camping in areas where a bit stronger construction might be needed such as areas with high wind, or where the contours of a dome tent really aid in site selection, such as the deep woods.  The contoured profile really gets away with tucking into places where more traditional, boxy family tents would never fit.

Things We Liked

  • Very breathable
  • Sheds water well
  • Lighter than many big tents

Things We Didn't Like

  • Hard to set up solo

4.4/5

NTK LAREDO GT 8-9 PERSON SPORT CAMPING TENT

The NTK Lareda 8/9 Sporting Camping Tent is very spacious at 10 x15 feet and provides enough room for 9 to 10 people to rest comfortably. This tent isn’t just roomy, but fairly tall as well, standing at over 6 feet.

Most family members shouldn’t have to hunch over on your camping trips, though some tents reviewed here are still yet even taller. This tent isn’t just roomy but also provides several features to help enhance comfort and protection while camping.

The micro mosquito mesh keeps mosquitos and small insects out while also allowing the free flow of fresh air.

This waterproof tent will keep you dry and is built to last with a frame made from 100% virgin NANO-FLEX shock corded fiber glass rods and double gold-plated ferrules.

The floor material is heavy duty anti-fungus polyethylene, which means you’ll stay dry even in less than ideal weather conditions. And the materials meet the CPAQ-84 flammability requirements.

Set up is easy given the color-coded poles and aluminum pin-and-ring system. And those poles come with a lifetime warranty. If a pole is ever broken by wind while anchored, you can get it replaced. Given the ease of setup, you can get to the campground and have your tent set up in no time.

Things We Liked

  • Waterproof
  • High quality mesh
  • Very spacious
  • Warranty on poles

Things We Didn't Like

  • Only one window, though the mesh keeps air flowing

4.2/5

COLEMAN WEATHERMASTER 10

The Coleman Weathermaster 10-person is well made and ready for the elements.  This tent has a lower rise than many of the other options which makes it more resistant to harsh weather.  The inside is large enough for the entire clan, and inclement weather has very little effect on the Weathermaster.

The spacious floor plan can accommodate a single queen air bed while leaving ample room around the sides, and we probably could have fit another air mattress in there. However, it may have resulted in having cramped campers up against a dripping inner wall.

If everyone crams into sleeping bags 10 people could fit into this tent if two of them slept down by others’ feet, be we didn’t test it that way as it seemed like it could end up uncomfortable.  In our estimation this model is far more suited for 8 occupants rather than 10, although pushing it to the 10 person maximum can be done.

At 6-foot, 8-inches high in the center, this tent is ideal for hanging battery powered lanterns or a gear loft with plenty of room leftover to stand up comfortably.

The Weathermaster 10 can be separated into rooms for extra privacy and Coleman’s hinged, self-closing door takes care of any pests that try to sneak in covertly.  There is also a convenient full-height standard zipping door at the rear which is convenient for access from any angle.

Lots of guy lines are a great feature of the Weathermaster 10 and really display why this model was given its name.  Plenty of lines on both the main tent and the rain fly ground very securely making it extra tough against wind and storms.  The rope sliders hold well and never needed re-adjusting even after a good thrashing, and large awnings over each end allow the breeze in, but not the rain. Its excellent for air ventilation without getting you wet.

Things We Liked

  • Stands up against weather nicely
  • Durable design
  • Stayed dry throughout testing

Things We Didn't Like

  • More setup time for fly

OZARK TRAIL FAMILY CABIN TENT

The 3-Room Family Cabin is yet another option on our list from Ozark Trail.  This tent has very ample floor space and 3 rooms so the whole crew can sleep in their own, separate nooks.  It provides a heightened level of privacy when camping with a larger group.

This model has smaller windows than some other models which we found to be suitable.  Larger windows may allow more air through, but smaller ones let the outer fabric retain more strength, and there ends up being less screen to tear.  Even with smaller windows, the air ventilation was sufficient.

The d-shaped main door is great for one-handed operation and did not snag at all, and there are two more doors at the end of each wing allowing the rooms to be partitioned with their own entrances.  A skylight, and a huge rear window, aid in air circulation even with the fly on providing all the fresh air we could need.

The sealed rain fly dispatches downpours very well and the guy lines tie this tent out tightly which takes care of the rest.

Things We Liked

  • Can separate rooms
  • Wallet-friendly
  • Holds up well in all sorts of weather

Things We Didn't Like

  • Lower than other options

COLEMAN ELITE MONTANA 8-PERSON TENT

Coleman Elite’s Montana 8-person tent is of a different build featuring a lower profile which helps to withstand inclement weather nicely.  A shock-corded, hanging design maintains a space between the main tent and the rain fly for a dual-walled construction.

This is particularly convenient on those rainy or windy nights as dual walls create a buffer for both water and sound, and provide a much quieter experience for its inhabitants.  The separated fly catches water and sheds it down onto the ground leaving the inner tent completely untouched, and with a reinforced bathtub base mat, any diffused water will fail to penetrate up through the floor.

Another nice benefit is that when installed, the rain fly guys out to the ground rather than the tent itself.  This means the fly is held in place by the use of additional stakes rather than the tent poles, which aids in further structural enforcement.

The entire ceiling is made of mesh so when the rain fly is removed, the Montana 8-person displays spectacular views of the night sky.  Never fear, even if it’s raining the three mesh windows still lend plenty of 360-degree viewing and ventilation with the fly on as well.

At 7 x 16-feet the interior of this tent is spacious yet not overly tall.  Most average height adults will only be able to stand at full height in the 6-foot, 2-inch center of the tent but if there is a lantern or gear loft hanging from the ceiling, it may require some ducking to get around.

As for floor space, Coleman states the Montana luxury camping tent can fit three queen-sized air beds inside. However, if that was the case there really wouldn’t be any room left to sneak around them.  This tent can easily accommodate two large folding cots and still have decent room for gear, but in a fix could probably hold eight adults if strategically placed.

Things We Liked

  • Large, overhanging vestibule to keep weather at bay
  • Lower profile is better for wind

Things We Didn't Like

  • Difficult for one person to setup in any sort of wind

WENZEL KLONDIKE 8-PERSON TENT

The Wenzel 8-person Klondike tent is a very roomy, affordable, 3-season tent.  The main atrium in this model is large enough to stand fully up in while still able to hang a lantern from the center hook, and the floorspace is more than enough for a double queen air mattress with all additional glamping gear stashed around the inside walls.

We think you'll like: 5 Best Glamping Tents Review

This tent features a large screen-porch style vestibule that is perfect for two people to lounge with chairs and even a small table, and if needed could accommodate two more campers inside to shelter out of the rain.

One thing that stood out about this model is that for things like cleaning fish or anything similar, the vestibule makes a perfect little bug-proof, ventilated room in which to do all the dirty work.

The Wenzel Klondike is perfectly at home on those relaxing summer trips to bluegrass festivals or the kids’ baseball tournaments but is not really recommended for inclement weather.  As a single-wall design, it is really not super-efficient at shedding water and the way the factory guy out lines are situated allows the sidewalls to sag inward. Luckily, there is enough room in the center portion that a person doesn’t have to touch the walls, but any essential gear may end up soaked if tucked into a corner.

Adding guy outs will significantly help to defend against wind, as this Klondike is not a fan of gusty conditions.  The walls have a tendency to flap around in anything over about 10 miles per hour, but it still provides an effective cabana and rain blocker for warmer, calmer seasons.

Things We Liked

  • Huge screen-porch vestibule
  • Full-height atrium
  • Features polyurethane coated Oxford cotton

Things We Didn't Like

  • Not meant to withstand high winds

CORE 9-PERSON INSTANT CABIN TENT

CORE’s 9-person Instant Cabin is a good choice for those who tend to use a lot of profanity while setting up tents or those who could be challenged in the world of tent-pitching.

A super-easy setup is the main focus of this portable abode, requiring only pulling the center of the tent upwards, and then sliding the locking legs into place for a full 60-seconds setup, less the time it took to put on the rain fly and stake it all down.

The rain fly wraps snugly around the upper edge of this tent covering the inner section very well.

The fly has fully taped seams and the main tent is sealed in an attempt to keep water out more reliably.  The polyester fabric features water beading technology that speeds runoff times to keep its insides as dry as possible.

Despite all of these water-repelling safeguards, we noticed that some of the seams on the inner tent did leak with heavy precipitation.  As far as days with lighter rain, it did indeed keep the team dry. So, you should be fine on drizzly days but might struggle during an actual rain storm.

An awesomely large, double door design grants easy access to this tent making moving in any larger equipment a breeze, and speaking of breeze, the inner tent is constructed mainly of super-fine mesh netting to provide the ultimate in ventilation.

The ventilation of this tent has a flipside, as this feature is where there seems to be some confusion from CORE.  On sunny summer days, airflow is at its maximum keeping this interior nice and cool. However, there is no way to fully close many of the vent windows in this tent, which left us basically freezing in any conditions below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.  This is not a very good feature for what should be a 3-season tent, so keep it for use mostly in the summertime. And you may want to find an alternative for chillier nights.

Things We Liked

  • Uses CORE H2O Block Technology to efficiently shed water
  • Very easy to set up, especially when bad weather is coming quickly
  • Double door design allows easy movement of large gear in and out
  • 1-year warranty

Things We Didn't Like

  • Some of the seams did leak

TIMBER RIDGE 8-PERSON CAMPING TENT

This Timber Ridge camping tent is big enough for 8 people to sleep comfortably at 14 x 6.  This tent offers two rooms, along with two front “D” shaped doors so you can get in and out easily. The inside room divider is detachable so you can leave it up for privacy or take it down for family game night or just to expand the room.

Unlike some other tents reviewed here, you’ll enjoy 3 mesh windows for a good deal of ventilation. You can use this tent almost anywhere given this breathable design. It isn’t just reserved for camping.

You can use it outside at the park or beach, or for protection during any outside activities. It is easy to transport so you can keep it in your car ready to go. That said, it is not waterproof so you want to avoid trying to use it in less than ideal weather conditions.

This camping tent is easy to set up with 5 shock corded fiberglass poles. The floor is made of a heavy-duty tub-style polyethylene so you can expect this tent to be durable.  And if you have any issues, it comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty which protects against any faulty materials or design.

You will get an incredible amount of space with this Tahoe Gear Carson Family Cabin Tent. The center and wall height of this tent stand at 7 feet, which means everyone can walk around comfortably without having to hunch over at all.

And there is a total of three rooms that can be closed for privacy, if needed. You can either enjoy the open space with the dividers left open or you can hang out in the open screen room. There is no shortage of space in this tent.

You may also want to keep them closed if it is raining or a bit chillier than expected. And the mesh is great at keeping mosquitos and other insects from getting in the tent.

The Coleman Weathermaster 6-person tent seems to be a bit heavier duty than some. Given Coleman’s long-standing reputation, it’s not surprise that this tent is durable. Still large enough for the family, the way this tent is set up is very low-slung and durable and has absolutely no trouble with heavy rains, high winds, or even storms rolling through.

The 11 x 9-foot floor can fit a single queen air bed with plenty of room to spare, and we probably could have fit another one in there if the occupants didn’t mind sleeping up against a slanted wall.

This comes into play with sleeping bag guests. To fit the rated number of 6 people in this tent, one of them would have to sleep down by another person’s feet and might end up getting wet.

A 6-foot, 8-inch high atrium piece is perfect for hanging battery powered lanterns or gear and leaves plenty of room to stand comfortably.  The tent can be separated into rooms for extra privacy and Coleman’s hinged, self-closing door serves to keep the pests and bugs out automatically.

Things We Liked

  • Stands up against weather nicely
  • Features more of an extreme architecture
  • Stayed dry throughout testing

Things We Didn't Like

  • Less room than other option

OZARK TRAIL 20' X 10' TUNNEL TENT WITH SCREEN PORCH

This tunnel tent measures 20 feet across, providing enough space for ten people to sleep. A large screen porch is available in the middle section. A foldable table would fit well inside to enjoy meals indoors rather than eating outside.

It separates two different bedroom areas located on the ends of the tent. Up to five people can sleep comfortably in each. The middle screened section could also be covered with a sheet to provide additional sleeping space if need be.

Providing enough privacy for the whole family, a big camping tent with rooms is the best to purchase. It offers plenty of space while making multiple rooms available. These tents are ideal to take on extended camping trips or group outings.
